SOS Board Members Gather for Annual Retreat
SAN ANTONIO, February 21, 2026 — Students of Service (SOS) hosted its annual Board Member Retreat at its office space at SAY Sí, bringing together both new and returning board members for a day of strategic planning, connection, and hands-on service.
The retreat focused on shaping the future of SOS while grounding leadership in the organization’s core pillars: Learn, Serve, and Explore. Board members stepped into the role of students for the day, participating in immersive program experiences to better understand the impact SOS delivers and the opportunities ahead for expanding that impact.
A defining moment of the retreat was a service initiative in partnership with ChildSafe, a local nonprofit that supports children entering the foster care system. Board members assembled duffle bags filled with essential comfort items for children transitioning into foster care — many of whom often carry their belongings in trash bags during an already difficult time. In addition to packing the bags, board members wrote encouraging messages for the children, offering words of comfort and support during a time of uncertainty.
This effort reflected a priority deeply important to SOS leadership: ensuring that service remains action-oriented at every level of the organization.
By incorporating meaningful service into the retreat, board members moved beyond planning and discussion to directly support vulnerable youth in the San Antonio community — reinforcing SOS’s belief that leadership is best modeled through action.
The day concluded with collaborative vision-setting and strategic alignment for the year ahead, positioning SOS for continued growth and deeper community impact.
SOS is grateful for the dedication and leadership of its board members, whose commitment continues to help the organization expand opportunities for students to learn, serve, and explore.
