SOS Welcomes Students from Sister City Gwangju, South Korea
SAN ANTONIO, October 2025 — Students of Service (SOS) was proud to help welcome visiting students from San Antonio’s sister city of Gwangju, South Korea for a week-long cultural exchange experience.
San Antonio and Gwangju have shared a sister city relationship for more than 40 years, rooted in strengthening cultural, artistic, and educational ties between the two communities. During their visit, Gwangju students were hosted by local families — creating meaningful opportunities for connection, learning, and friendship.
Throughout the week, students explored San Antonio’s culture and community through experiences including visits to the McNay Art Museum, the Alamo, the Pearl, and the San Antonio Botanical Garden. They attended a Spurs game, toured UTSA’s Makerspace, participated in the UTSA Kimchi Festival, and connected with local students at the International School of the Americas.
The group also visited community partners including SAY Sí and OCI, while experiencing San Antonio traditions like breakfast tacos at Denman Estate Park and a visit to Mi Tierra.
These exchanges play an important role in fostering global understanding and reflect SOS’s commitment to helping students build connections beyond borders.
SOS is grateful to the host families and community partners who helped make this visit possible and continues to support opportunities that strengthen San Antonio’s longstanding relationship with Gwangju.
