Student Ambassador Program

SOS Japan Ambassador Trip
June 11-20, 2025

PLEASE NOTE: This trip is currently full and we are accepting applications for the waitlist only! If you would like to join the waitlist, please complete the application below, but a place is not guaranteed.
Apply to the SOS Japan Ambassador Program
The 2024 Japan Ambassador Program offers students an unforgettable experience in Japan, including cultural immersion and historical exploration! The full cost for the trip will be $5,700, but students will be eligible for SOS travel scholarships. Please visit the scholarship page for more information.

Eligibility and Requirements:
  • Application: Submit the application to join the program.
  • SOS Volunteer Hours: Complete 15 hours of community service with SOS.
  • Preparatory Classes: Attend mandatory classes on Japanese language, culture, history, and Japan's relationship with San Antonio. We will also have mandatory pre-departure classes on travel preparation and safety briefings.

Program Highlights:
  • Tokyo: Explore dynamic Tokyo, from the historic Imperial Palace to the futuristic Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation, and the vibrant Harajuku fashion district.
  • Mt. Fuji: Visit the picturesque lakes surrounding Mt. Fuji and enjoy a ropeway trip and boat ride.
  • Kumamoto: Meet with local officials and youth, visit Kumamoto Castle, Japanese gardens, and engage in cultural activities such as wearing a yukata and participating in a tea ceremony.
  • Hiroshima: Learn about the Hiroshima atomic bombing at Peace Park and visit the museum.
  • Osaka: Visit the 2025 World Expo and explore  Osaka!

Cultural Exchange and Reflection:
  • Interact with Japanese students, share cultural experiences, and make lasting friendships.
  • Reflect on the journey and share insights with the group.
This program is designed to broaden students' global perspectives and foster leadership skills through meaningful cultural exchanges and volunteerism.
Day 1 - San Antonio to Tokyo

Day 2 - Arrival in Tokyo, meet and transfer to the hotel and group dinner
 

Day 3 - Tokyo - full day cultural tour with dinner

Day 4 - Mt. Fuji day excursion with lunch

Day 5 - Fly to Kumamoto

Day 6 - Kumamoto - meet with local students and city officials in San Antonio's sister city!

Day 7 - Kumamoto

Day 8 - Kumamoto to Hiroshima by the bullet train. Full day tour in Hiroshima. Late afternoon, take the bullet train to Osaka. Overnight in Osaka

Day 9 - Osaka - full day at World Expo
